Langar and Barnstone have always been about farming. Most of the land around here is farmland.   

There are Church Farm, Hall Farm, Langar Grange Farm, Langar Hall Farm, Langar Lodge Farm, Limes Farm, Station Farm Barnstone, Works Farm Barnstone - to name a few.


 Langar and Barnstone have always been about farming,  but 

there are people here who make their living in many other ways.

  


Langar Airfield

When Langar Airfield closed after World War 2, this left land free where the hangars had been and where the workshops were which mended the Lancaster bombers.

 

Many of Langar's businesses are on the site of the old airfield. And the airfield itself is still used.

Skydive

Langar airfield lay unused after the Second World War until 1977 when the British Parachute School (Skydive) opened here using the old control tower for their headquarters. Skydive Langar is a full-time professional parachuting centre catering for both beginners and experienced skydivers. Skydives are from 13,000 feet from a Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft and are pretty scary!

 


Naturescape

Naturescape on Coach Gap Lane

 This is farming - not producing food but wild flowers! Naturescape was founded in 1978 by Brian and Elizabeth Scarborough and is the largest producer of British native wildflower seeds in the United Kingdom. There are 200 acres of fields growing wild flowers and 45 acres are open to the public. There's even a coffee shop.

 

 



John Deere

 This is farming - not producing food, but producing farm machinery.

 John Deere was an American blacksmith who invented a better plough in 1837. He went on to build tractors. The company he set up went on to become the largest manufacturer of farm machinery in the world.

John Deere celebrated 50 years in the UK in 2016. They started trading from Langar in 1966 on a site that had been the Canadian Air Force Medical supply depot at Langar airfield. This site is now in use as John Deere's national parts distribution centre.

Barnstone Cement Company was founded in Victorian times and is still an important business now. 70 people work here making 230,000 tonnes of cement every year.

Langar Industrial Estate, Harby Road

Langar Industrial Estate is on a site on Harby Road opposite Langar Airfield, that had been the repair workshops for Lancaster bombers during World War 2. (See the Second World War for more.)

CDA make cookers, dishwashers, washing machines, fridges, sinks and taps. The company was set up in 1991 on a 9-acre site and has a workforce of 220 people. There is a showroom of the company's products to visit on site.

  

Proctors Transport was set up in 1969 by Geoffrey Proctor. They transport agricultural machinery and road-making materials and have their own workshops on site workshops to keep their fleet of lorries on the road.

 

 

Set up in 1987, Lacus Felt UK makes sound-proofing for cars and for other industries. 

  

30 people work at Interflex making seals against air, water, dust and noise for cars, and components such as interior trims for car doors, armrests and centre consoles. The company set up here in 2003.

 

 

Mainline Mouldings is a  family-run company who make picture frames from recycled polystyrene in 1000 designs and finishes. 


Langar North Trading Estate, Harby Road

Langar Trading Estate is a site on Harby Road at the north end of Langar Airfield where the aircraft hangars were during World War 2.  (See the Second World War for more.)

 

 

John Deere is the first unit on the Langar Trading Estate.

Kingstone Products make pre-cast concrete lintels and architectural stonework for the building trade.

 

 

Since 2005 Unbrako make pre-stressed concrete panels and are one of the largest producers in the UK. The panels are used in many ways including buildings for livestock, grain storage and silage pits.

  

Vale Protective Coatings prepare and paint steelwork for use on building sites. Overhead cranes can handle steel girders 30 tonnes in weight. There is vast storage yard, 20 shunt trailers and fork lifts that can carry 14 tonnes.

 

 

B Allsop & Sons have run their scrap metal recycling business since 1972, There are now three generations of the family working here. 

  

S & L is a family business specialising in car body repair work whether for accident repair, rally car preparation or commercial vehicles.

 Davies Salvage Car Breakers

From 2009 Jamie and Millie Davies have been breaking cars.

There is a stock here of some 400 cars at a time. They supply salvaged parts for all makes and models of vehicles and send off the scrap for recycling. 

 


Coach Gap Lane, Barnstone

Coach Gap Lane on the edge of Barnstone Cement Works began to be used for industry before the Second World War.

World of Marble was set up in 2001 and makes and installs natural marble worktops in kitchens. They have a wide range of natural and man-made stones which are cut to size here.

Micromix make fertilisers for crops using biostimulants, seaweed extracts, soluble powder and liquid micronutrients. Micromix was established in 1987. From a 3-acre site, they supply a significant percentage of the UK micronutrient market and export overseas. They also produce a range of products for automotive, home and garden, agricultural, horticultural and sports turf.

 

 

 

Sharpes of Nottingham is a family run coach business founded in 1996, which moved here from Cropwell Bishop in 2016. They run a fleet of luxury coaches but also run a number of heritage vehicles.

 

Established in 1984, Bingham Catering Trailers make trailers for every purpose. Their motto is: 'If you can describe it, we can make it!'

Langar Hall was the manor house of the lords of Langar and Barnstone from the time of the Norman conquest in 1066.

 

Langar Hall Hotel has been a top-class hotel and restaurant since 1983 and is still run by members of the same family.

Delucy's Deli is a delicatessen which sells a wide range of quality products many of them sourced locally. It is built on a small business park on Barnstone Road that had been the saw mill of farmer and wheelwrights, Clark & Sons from the 1920s, previously farmland.

 

On the same site is Belvoir Bakery/ Vale Bakery which runs market stalls mainly across Lincolnshire selling a wide range of artisan breads and cakes made fresh every day.
